Farm & Food Care Ontario is leading an innovative and exciting Agricultural Awareness Project, partially funded by Agriculture and Agri Food Canada through the Agricultural Adaptation Council with industry project sponsors. FarmzOnWheelz is a unique project; a modern display created by scientists and other experts at the Ontario Science Centre in Toronto.
The interactive exhibit is based on agriculture, food, technology, environmental and energy stewardship.
FarmzOnWheelz is a travelling exhibit made up of a number of interactive components:
-
Farming Fuels the Future – Alternative energy is front of mind for many. This display features both a working model of a manure biodigester and another with ethanol fuel cells showcasing the role that agriculture has as a source of renewable energy. Another fun component is a hand crank that challenges the user to see how much power they can generate.
-
Weird Stuff: This display illustrates that agriculture is everywhere. From a violin to soy fibre underwear, visitors are amazed at the breadth of the agricultural industry.
-
Visit Canadian Farms: Participants virtually visit all types of Canadian livestock farms: from dairy to pork to ostrich and more. This virtual tour features a new Know Farmers – Know Food video. This video provides a glimpse into modern agriculture; from animals and crops to technology featuring real farmers at work.
-
What's on your Plate? An interactive food selection from a buffet table that allows visitors to choose their meal. Based on Canada's Food Guide, their choices will be evaluated nutritionally. The display also shows the impact and their role in supporting local agriculture.
-
Spin Browser: A large screen enables visitors to explore from a video library of clips. Clips can move forward, backward or stop - all controlled by the participant. This exhibit also feature two side "live" features: a vibrant worm colony and a compost/plant growth display. This spin browser is the only one in Canada currently showing time lapse videos of the live components featured at the exhibit.
-
Tell us what you think: A digital survey for visitors to provide feedback on the exhibit and agriculture. This will also allow for questions of the day- depending on current events or areas of interest for project sponsors.
Get involved in this project!
Farm & Food Care is looking for financial assistance to bring this new and exciting display to venues and schools across the province. FarmzOnWheelz is a unique way to promote the “cool” science side of agriculture. Our primary targets: Teens & young adults, educators & families.
