 International Animal Welfare Specialist to speak in Mississauga

Dr. Temple Grandin to give public lecture

April 4, 2012 (Guelph) - Distinguished author and animal welfare specialist, Dr. Temple Grandin, will giving a presentation entitled Understanding the Animals in your Life, on June 7, 2012 at the Living Arts Centre in Mississauga, Ontario. She will address the definite human-animal bond as she explores the concept of how animals impact a largely human world.

The evening will begin at 7:15 p.m. with a reception and book signing with Dr. Grandin and then continue at 8:00 p.m. with the keynote lecture and a question and answer session. Proceeds from the event will benefit The Farm & Food Care Foundation. The foundation’s mandate is to build public trust and confidence in food and farming.

“It is an honor to have Dr. Grandin speak at our event,” said Bruce Christie, chair of the Farm & Food Care Foundation. “This lecture will give the audience a chance to hear, first hand, from one of the world’s most respected experts on animal welfare.”

In 2010, Time Magazine named Dr. Grandin as one of the “100 Most Influential People in the World”. Autistic herself, she is world-renowned as an inspiration to people with autism as well being known for her pioneering work to improve animal welfare practices on the farm, in transit and at processing facilities. ”.   HBO also produced the award winning biographical film on her life that went on to win both an Emmy and a Golden Globe award in 2010.

An internationally-recognized expert in and advocate of humane animal treatment, Dr. Grandin has worked with companies throughout North America on how to better care for their livestock. She is also the inventor of a livestock handling system used by more than half of the meat processors in Canada and the United States.
